Corporate Social Responsibility Policy

Berganza Antique Jewellery

An industry leader in antique jewellery, with over 50 years experience in the trade, Berganza is dedicated to promoting and upholding key pillars of corporate social responsibility. We seek to ensure our ongoing commitment to our staff, customers, and wider global community through the actions as outlined below.

Our Social Responsibility as an Employer

  • A responsible employer, we are committed to sustaining a safe, fair and inclusive workplace, dedicated to creating an environment of equal opportunity and fostering a culture that makes each colleague feel valued.
  • We invest in upcoming talent, offering extensive training and encouraging professional development.
  • We endorse equal opportunities with regards to promotion, retention and employment.
  • We will not tolerate any discriminatory or abusive practices towards or by our staff or suppliers.
  • Our employee handbook is regularly reviewed and updated in line with new laws and best practice.

Our Social Responsibility as a Business

  • We are committed to upholding the principles set out in the The Human Rights Act, 1998.
  • We are committed to upholding the principles set out in The Modern Slavery Act, 2015, and will not tolerate unfair or forced labour at any level of our supply chain, including child labour and corruption.
  • We endeavour to make positive and long lasting contributions to both the jewellery community and wider community with regards to educating about the sustainable attributes of antique jewellery and natural gemstones.
  • Proceeds of our book are donated to the charity Centrepoint who aids homelessness within the UK.

Our Environmental Responsibility

  • We are committed to operating in a responsible and environmentally conscious manner, promoting sustainability in all our practices.
  • We only use recycled or ethically sourced gold in our workshops for restoration and bespoke undertakings.
  • We are committed to supporting The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
  • We do not partake in the trade of modern ivory, coral, or tortoiseshell and only work with antiques that contain these items if we are certain of their age.
  • We are committed to promoting the sustainable aspects of antique jewellery with already unearthed natural diamonds and gemstones.
  • We use eco-friendly and recyclable packaging wherever possible.
  • Our commitment to restoring jewellery in our workshop, bringing new life to existing pieces, avoids contributing to modern mass production.
  • We invest in and sell only natural diamonds and gemstones, which hold a perpetual resale value.

Our Business Ethics

  • We primarily deal in antique diamonds, and only source new diamonds from suppliers who can prove that their stones come from conflict-free areas as stated in the Kimberley Process.
  • We work with esteemed and reputable suppliers who in turn respect and promote ethical business practices at all levels of the supply chain.
  • We are members of several national and international trade organisations, including LAPADA, CINOA, NAJ and GEM-A. As such we must adhere to the strict regulations of integrity, quality, and expertise that these organisations embody.
  • We do not fraudulently misrepresent the origin or nature of gemstones.
  • We do not tolerate practices that support money laundering, bribery and corruption.

Berganza ensures that all our business practices are undertaken with these responsibilities in mind, and each value to be upheld by the company in perpetuity.
