Founded in 1912 in New York City, the firm of Oscar Heyman & Brothers has been a manufacturer of handmade jewellery of the finest quality for over a century. There is a cachet to owning an Oscar Heyman piece, as the attention to detail and fine quality of materials is 'de rigueur' for the firm. They are known as the jeweller's jeweller; this is because Oscar Heyman were the manufacturers for prestigious jewellery houses. For example, the world may think that Cartier made the necklace upon which hung the famous D flawless, 69.42 carat Taylor-Burton diamond, but it was in fact Heyman.
With no obvious prospects in their native Latvia, Oscar and Nathan Heyman left home to become apprentices with their uncle at the famous Fabergé workshop in St Petersburg, Russia, where they learnt under master-craftsman. In 1906 they left Russia and arrived in New York City where Oscar then worked for Pierre Cartier who was just starting Cartier, New York. With skills learned from the top jewellers, Oscar and Nathan, soon joined by other members of the family, formed the company we know today as Oscar Heyman & Brothers.
Colour plays a major role in their jewellery, enhanced by impressive sculptural and abstract designs. Oscar Heyman & Brothers are experts in fine jewellery and have mastered the making of jewellery into art, Oscar Heyman once said, ‘Jewellery should never be a candidate for re-design, but should transcend time, like a fine painting'. Their jewellery is highly sought after and prized for its impeccable workmanship and exquisite quality and are only recently being recognized for their lasting contribution to jewellery history.
