 Description

Ancient Roman Faunus intaglio ring. Set with a round glass intaglio in a closed back rubover setting featuring a bust of Faunus, proceeding to smoothly rounded shoulders and terminating in a solid D-shape shank, approximately 1.6g in weight. Tested yellow gold, circa 1st-2nd century AD.

A Roman deity, Faunus was worshiped as the god of the forest, plains and fields. A mythological hybrid with human and goat attributes, in this example Faunus is distinguished by his horns. The Greek equivalent for this deity is Pan.
