Antique & Vintage Eternity Rings

Eternity rings are a symbol of everlasting love, represented in the shape of an endless circle. The intended purpose, whether it is to signify love, joy, an achievement, or a memory, is held within...

...the never-ending band. These rings are often given as gifts to commemorate special occasions or anniversaries. The sentiment is very similar to that of posy rings, though instead of a small motto or insignia of love engraved upon it, the eternity ring uses stones and gems.

Berganza’s specialist selection of antique and vintage eternity rings includes an ever-changing choice of interesting and unusual vintage rings. De Beers popularised the diamond eternity ring in the 1960s, but Art Deco eternity rings have become extremely popular for the maximalists among us.

Vintage eternity rings include yellow gold, platinum and white gold rings, and some examples with mixed metals. Here, you will find colourful rings set with natural unenhanced gemstones such as ruby, sapphire and emerald, and others with bright diamonds. Whether it is to go alongside an existing ring or to make a statement all on its own, we have options available for all tastes. Should you wish to create a ring stack after your big day, we also offer bespoke wedding rings that can be designed to perfectly accommodate the size and shapes of the stones on your eternity or antique engagement rings.

Our vintage and antique eternity rings have a range of different settings, from claw and intricate grain settings, to seamless channel and gypsy settings. Some examples of our eternity rings have fancy shaped collets such as boxes, hearts, twists and marquise shapes. The cut of diamonds and gemstones vary from old cut and old single cut, to baguette cut, step cut, calibré cut and French cut stones. Berganza’s collection of eternity rings also include much sought after designer or signed rings made by Oscar Heyman & Brothers, Cartier and Tiffany & Co., all of which are set with the very best materials and demonstrate expert workmanship.

Vintage and antique eternity rings are perfect for everyday wear and can add some welcome sparkle or a dash of colour to your finger.

FAQs

What Is An Eternity Ring?

What are eternity rings you ask? An eternity ring is a ring with diamonds or gemstones around the band and can come in many different designs. Eternity rings date back almost 4,000 years to the ancient Egyptians, where they were given as a gift from husband to wife to symbolise a token of love. This gesture has continued into the present day, where vintage and antique eternity rings make the perfect gift to give to celebrate occasions, anniversaries and friendship. Because of their history, vintage eternity rings are a popular choice and designs can include beautifully coloured gemstones, or more classic Art Deco ring styles where linear cuts of diamond or strikingly coloured gemstones are used.

1
What Does An Eternity Ring Symbolise?

Eternity rings can hold just as much sentiment as antique engagement rings or wedding rings, as they are used to share similar meanings of promise and commitment. Eternity rings are hugely symbolic due to the representation they hold of the “circle of life”, which is represented by the shape of the ring, thus promoting the symbol of everlasting love. Eternity rings are often gifted for special occasions, anniversaries and life events, which then add to the sentimental value of the ring. Choosing an antique or vintage eternity ring for your loved one is a wonderful jewellery gift idea if you are looking to celebrate a momentous occasion, or just want to give them a symbol of your love.

2
When Do You Get An Eternity Ring?

Eternity rings are a traditional anniversary gift, often given to celebrate a first wedding anniversary as a way of showing the everlasting love and celebration of the time spent together as a couple. Antique and vintage eternity rings can also be given as a thoughtful gift for other significant anniversaries, or to celebrate momentous life events and occasions, such as the birth of a child or birthdays. Their elegance and design work well with other rings that may be worn on the hand, or as a statement and stand-alone piece.

3
What Finger Do You Wear An Eternity Ring On?

An eternity ring can be worn on any finger as it is all down to personal choice. A traditional choice of placement for an eternity ring is the left hand ring finger with a wedding and engagement ring. Firstly, the wedding ring is often placed on the finger first, as it is the closest to your heart. Following the wedding ceremony, the engagement ring is placed back on the finger, on top of the wedding ring to keep it secure. Finally, the eternity ring is placed on top of the engagement ring. If the design of your vintage or antique eternity ring means that it can’t be comfortably worn alongside a wedding and engagement ring, then you can of course wear it on whichever finger it fits best. Eternity rings have diamonds or gemstones which are less likely to overlap or disrupt your other rings. They are perfect if you are looking for an eternity ring design to wear alongside a wedding and engagement ring.

Can You Get An Eternity Ring Before Marriage?

You do not need to be married in order to wear an eternity ring, as they can be given to mark occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays and life events. Because antique and vintage eternity rings are intricately and elegantly designed, there is no reason to say that you can’t wear one if you are not married. Worn alongside other rings or on its own to make a statement, eternity rings are a fantastic jewellery choice and are highly unique, well crafted and designed.
