Carlo Weingrill yellow gold earrings. A matching pair, each composed of a broad ribbed hoop, fitted to reverse with a secure post, approximately 3cm in length. Marked 18 carat yellow gold, total approximate weight of 25.58 grams, maker's mark, hallmarks for Verona, Italian, circa 1970.

Born in Verona in 1856, Carlo Weingrill began his career, aged 11, as an apprentice in a goldsmith's shop. A decade later, he established his own workshop in his hometown.

Gold has always been the mainstay of Weingrill's designs, and Carlo only employed goldsmiths who handcrafted their jewellery rather than using machines. The importance of this kind of artistry and excpetional knowledge of one material was of the utmost importance to the vision of the Weingrill name. This tradition of expertise has continued on, with the company producing timeless pieces that are a wearable form of art.

In 1924, Carlo's sons took over the business and set about expanding the name, which gained them worldwide prestige for their workmanship. Now in their 4th generation, the business continues to be family-run.

The distinctive rich yellow hue of their Italian gold has become synonymous with the house, with many of the celebrated jewellery names, including Cartier and Tiffany & Co. having turned to Weingrill for their designs. Most notably, Bulgari's turboga-style bracelets, necklaces and rings are attributed to Weingrill.
