 Comments

Turquoise is one of the world’s most ancient gems. Archaeological excavations revealed that the rulers of ancient Egypt adorned themselves with turquoise jewellery, and Chinese artisans were carving it more than 3,000 years ago.

It is thought that the word turquoise dates to as early as the 13th century and derives from the French ‘pierres tourques’ or ‘Turkish stone’. Despite the finest material being found in Persia, turquoise was brought to Europe through the ottoman empire, so for centuries it was assumed that it was in fact Turkish in origin.
