 Description

Gold posy ring, 'A mitte for a milleau'. A half round band with the interior engraved 'A mitte for a milleau' on a smooth solid shank, approximately 2mm in width. Yellow gold, approximately 1.57 grams in weight, circa 18th century.

Formerly part of a private UK collection. This inscription is recorded in 'English Posies and Posy Rings' by Evans. J (1931) page 19. It is a variation on the saying 'A mite for a million', seen on a ring given by Issak Walton to the Lord Bishop of Winton, 'The complete angler, or Contemplative man's recreation', (1815) page 62.
