Alabaster & Wilson: Masters of Craftsmanship

English jewellers from 1887 to 2018 High quaility items

For more than 100 years, Alabaster & Wilson Ltd. has symbolised expert craftsmanship and the manufacture of very fine jewellery in England. They have made high quality pieces for many of the leading jewellery companies such as Cartier.

The company combined generations of experience and many years of skill and artistry, Alabaster and Wilson was an established leader in the field of fine jewellery. Sadly, in December 2018 they closed their doors for the last time.

It was co-founded by Arthur Alabaster and Thomas Wilson in 1887 in the historic heart of the Birmingham Jewellery quarter. Three years later they were capable of building and moving to their state-of-the-art factory in Legge Lane.

From the start talented craftsmen were employed to make a wide range of high-quality diamond and gold jewellery specially designed for their discerning clientele during the late 19th century. Each design was initially started with a master drawing, and from this the craftsmen created the final piece.

The third and fourth generations of the Alabaster family were the last to run it, the Company remained a true family business.

They have handmade one-off pieces for the British Royal Family, Sultan of Brunei, along with Roman Abramovich and Eric Clapton, the British Racing Drivers' Club and Formula One drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. The firm was also the leading jewellery supplier to the horse racing world.

For Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday they made a fine brooch in the form of a racehorse with a jockey on its back. They used three different colours of gold, encrusted the brooch with 35 diamonds and the jockey had intricate coloured enamel work depicting the jockeys bright coloured clothing.
