 Comments

Lettering and inscriptions can be used to narrow the dating of a ring with Oman (1974: 41) noting that inscriptions in Roman capitals were commonly inscribed on posy rings from the mid-16th century. Roman capital script was replaced by italic inscriptions in the second quarter of the 17th century.

The decoration and construction of this posy ring can be compared to two other posy rings under the Portable Antiquities Scheme references GLO-55A844 and IOW-5EFAB8.
