 Description

Proto-Viking gold zoomorphic ring. A yellow gold sinuous penannular ring, composed of two ridged plaques (or bodies) with incised decoration, each flanked to both sides by a pair of eyes and terminating in a ribbed shank, all smoothly spiralling around the finger. Tested yellow gold, approximately 13.46 grams in weight, circa 3rd century AD, accompanied by an Oxford Labs X-ray fluorescence report stating the composition of the metal.

This rare ring is a particularly fine example of proto-Viking craftsmanship.
