 Description

Renaissance gold 'Bamme Family' signet ring with rock crystal seal. Centrally set with an oval rock crystal intaglio, intricately carved to depict a griffin's head, a ducal crown and a key positioned in the beak in a closed foiled back rubover setting, surrounded by a smooth polished border, flanked to either side with broad trumpeting shoulders which lead to a solid D-shape shank. Tested yellow gold, approximately 7.9g in weight, circa 16th-17th century, accompanied by a museum quality seal impression.

The Bamme or Baum family originated in Gillingham, Kent in the 15th century. The family crest is unique with it's use of the griffin, ducale crown and key making this item a particularly rare example.
