 Description

Chaumet Colombian emerald solitaire ring. Set centrally with an octagonal emerald cut natural Colombian emerald with minor oil in an open back rubover setting with an approximate weight of 2.40 carats, to an impressive solitaire design featuring textured metalwork throughout, with trumpeting shoulders that lead to a solid D-shape shank. Tested yellow gold, signed 'Chaumet', indistinct maker's mark, circa 1965, accompanied by The Gem & Pearl Laboratory report #25706.

 Comments

René Morin joined Chaumet in 1962, bringing a fresh perspective to the established firm after studying sculpture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, France.

His arrival marked the beginning of an era of experimentation and unconventional approaches in Chaumet’s designs. Familiar themes such as nature remained prominent, but with a new boldness in Morin’s hands.

In the late 1960s, Chaumet embraced a bold new direction with the introduction of "or sauvage" (wild gold) into their designs, as seen in this piece, and positioned Chaumet at the forefront of avant-garde creativity during the period from 1965 to 1985.
