 Description

Victorian turquoise earrings. A matching pair of earrings, each set with sixty round cabochon natural turquoises in closed back grain settings, one hundred and twenty in total, and further set with two round rose cut diamonds in closed back grain set star shaped settings, the four in total with a combined approximate weight of 0.04 carats, to an elegant double drop composed of oval bombé shaped clusters encompassed by a delicate rope twist gold border, articulated and flowing with movement, and fitted to reverse with a secure shepherd's hook, approximately 3.8cm in length from top of hook. Tested yellow gold, English, circa 1870.

 Comments

The use of turquoise in Victorian jewellery was influenced by the revival of interest in historical and exotic styles at the time. Queen Victoria, herself, was a great admirer of the gem and even gifted her bridal party gifts of turquoise brooches.
