Plisson already had an established business when he joined forces with Hartz in 1898, to become Maison Plisson et Hartz, (his previous companies include Maison Plisson, 1886-1898, and between...
...1872-1886 he was in another partnership: Bottentuit & Plisson). The partnership with Hartz endured only a few years, until 1904, when Plisson died, and Hartz continued the business as Hartz & Compagnie.
They are credited by Vever as having introduced the chimera, or winged dragon, brooch. Despite an initially cool reception, these brooches soon became fashionable, and were created in both France, and Germany, with Hartz being the creative force behind the chimera jewels.
