Knowledge
The scissor cut has a long history, dating back to the early 16th century. This unique cutting style of a scissor cut is characterised by elongated, slender facets that intersect diagonally, creating a crisscross pattern resembling the blades of scissors.
Stone Cuts
What is a Scissor Cut?
This cut represented an improvement over earlier cutting styles such as the point cut or table cut, which simply polished the natural octahedral shape of diamond crystals. The scissor cut involved creating more facets to enhance the gem's appearance and light reflection.
By around 1700, most scissor cut diamonds had been refashioned into old mine cut as they became the favoured cut.

Why Choose a Scissor Cut?
The scissor cut is a variation of the step cut, but it offers more reflectivity than the emerald or Asscher cut due to its facet patterns. Scissor cut gemstones are particularly effective for coloured stones, as the cut helps to bring out the intensity of the gem's colour while maintaining excellent brilliance.
